GFLRRC Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order: 8:34pm
Attendees: Bob Barnard, Cynthia Raes Barnard, Eileen Schneider, Coach Robert Hendrick, Coach Howard Elakman, Coach Tom Kasprik, Jon Renaud, Carol DeMeo, Trina Sanderman, Nancy Rose Peduzzi, Kelle Burke, and Rosa Garcia-Baldwin
Approval Minutes of Last Meeting:
The minutes of last month's meeting were approved as presented.
Treasurer's Report: Susan Falvai
Not able to attend. She will provide a report at next meeting.
Membership: Maria Fletcher
Not able to attend. Report provided: Membership 426 (-13 down from last month)
Training: Coach Howard Elakman
Coach Howard provided an overview of “what is a coach” with explanation of his certification and his specific focus with the club and how he trains. He discussed his training schedules that are currently being provided for three of the new members of GFLRRC. He encouraged our participation with RRCA and attendance at their conventions. He also encouraged the GFLRRC to advertise more.
He will be presenting his beginner training plan for marathon runners to GFLRRC Board Members for review.
AM Track Workouts: Coach Robert Hendrick
20-25…runners have been showing up. June 23 he will be starting training for the ½ and full marathon and 5 and 10 K track workout.
Newsletter: Linda Ayre
Linda was not able to attend. President Cynthia again sends kudos to Linda for a continued great job with the Newsletter.
Linda wants to remind all that if you want races/ times (pre or post) listed you must contact Linda directly. Information should be received on or before the noon on the 9th of the month. Linda is encouraging articles to be submitted for the newsletter by GFLRRC runners about their experience(s) at a race.
E-Newsletter: Jon Renaud
We have 4,028 email contacts.
We are now paying $46.75 per month for services (previously $80.00). Savings is due to continued “list cleanup” removing invalid emails. It keeps our fees lower.

Saturday Training 5K/10K/Half/Full Marathon: Coach Robert Hendrick
Meet behind Red Door Spa at the Galleria Mall (SE corner) - Water is provided on the training course north and south, nevertheless, he still recommends that every one carry their own water. Participation has been increasing every week. We have an average of 25 to 30 participants. Starting time will begin at 6am. Water stops have been changed. No training on Saturday of Freedom 5K.
Cynthia and Bob will be at the July 3rd run as Coach Robert will not be there on that day. There will be no water stops on July 3rd.
Sunday Fun Run at Deerfield : Coach Tom Kasprik
Participation is approx at 18+. Start time is 6am. Has training plans for whatever distance anyone is running. Water/Gatorade stop assistance has dropped but attendance continues.
Motion passed to discontinue Gatorade at the stops but water will still be provided.
If anyone can help out with the distribution and pick up of the water please contact Tom Kasprik and/or Susan Falvai.
Thursday evening fun run: President Cynthia Raes Barnard
The GFLRRC runners continue to increase in attendance (50 this week) on Thursday evening starting at 6:30pm at George English Park, Ft Lauderdale. We look forward to welcoming more members and non-members. Look for the GFLRRC tent!
The young people are back from Gibbons and attending the runs as well.
Pizza is provided on the fourth Thursday at the park after the run.
GFLRRC Constitution: Review Committee: Mark Darby, Carol DeMeo and Tom Coccia
Carol: No update at this time.
Nancy Rose Peduzzi volunteered to be on the committee.
The committee was reminded that any changes to the current amendments of the GFLRRC Constitution will need to be approved by September 1st for publication in the Running Forum in the October and November issues.
Fitness Fiesta: Cynthia Raes Barnard
Fitness Fiesta was held on May 23rd Sunday, 4pm at George English Park pavilion. 85 people in attendance and provided a profit for the GFLRRC. Feedback was that everyone had a great time. Running Wild/Runners Edge table; Life Extensions (supplements/nutrition); Podiatrist speaker; Vitamin Shoppe (gift basket); etc., Speakers started at 5pm. Chipotle donated burritos and Tijuana Flats donated two platters of chips/salsa. There was a great volunteer support at the park but next time assistance would be appreciated to unload the trailer at the Barnard house.
Freedom 5K: Bob Barnard
T-shirts are ready and will be in the stores on Saturday, June 12th. Run will be held at Quiet Waters Park401 South Powerline Road, Deerfield Beach, on June 26th. It was announced by Bob Barnard that a new course has been designed, that is, the start will be on the road with the finish on the grass.
Kick Off: Bob Barnard
The Kick Off 5K fun run will be on August 14th at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, 3109 East Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, start time is 7am. This is a fun run, the kick off in particular for those in training for the ING marathon and ½ marathon. T-Shirts will be provided by ING Miami. Volunteers are needed. Volunteers will need to arrive between 4:30-5:00am.
GFLRRC BOD meeting location: Cynthia Raes Barnard
Discussion regarding changing the location of the GFLRRC BOD meeting will be discussed at next meeting which will be held at the Barnard residence, 299 SE 1st Terrace, Pompano Beach unless otherwise notified.
RaceIt / Membership Program: Maria Fletcher
Bob Barnard reported that AboomA is no longer supporting running races. Therefore, GFLRRC is moving the Membership Program from AboomA to RaceIt. More information will follow at next BOD meeting.
Sneaker Strut: Cynthia Raes Barnard
Cynthia spoke with Artie, Starbucks Regional Director. He is interested in hosting a GLFRRC event (Sneaker Strut) at the Sawgrass store at the end of August. Speakers, food, etc., basically details will follow when all confirmations of participates, etc. are received by President Cynthia.
Motion was passed: GFLRRC to host the Sneaker Strut event on August 29th Time: 5:00-9:00pm. Cost: $10.00 early registration; $15.00 day of the event. Location: Starbucks: Sawgrass/Lyons (exact address will be provided)
Singlet Sponsor / Starbucks: Cynthia Raes Barnard
Cynthia spoke with Artie, Starbucks Regional Director. He is donating $750.00 for the purchase of GFLRRC singlets and running bra with Starbucks (noted sponsorship) on the back. Cynthia will research layout, design, company to purchase from, etc. - basically, more information to follow at next meeting.
Social Networking / Media: Carol DeMeo
Carol discussed that GFLRRC should be utilizing Facebook for GFLRRC.
Motion was passed: Carol DeMeo is the Social Media Director. She will be developing and monitoring the GFLRRC Facebook website.

Applications for distribution: Board / members are encouraged to pick up GFLRRC race applications for assistance in the distribution at other races. Applications for Freedom 5K are now available. Contact Cynthia and/or Bob Barnard to get applications.
